...and I am wondering where the nurses are! Are there no community-based nurses to give support to the families (and help the effort at adherence)?

The pharmacy there consists of a small room with a book shelf. One row of the shelf has meds. In addition to the 3 FDCs including stavudine/lamivudine, there was an efavirenz syrup, a zidovudine preparation, and co-trimoxazole. Since there are so few patients so far, they do not need to have a ton of meds on site. I expect this to change in the coming months.

There is a pharmacist, though I did not meet that person. I do not know what their role is, beyond dispensing the meds.

Wow! Those are very interesting and disturbing thoughts about adherence in children there. What was the pharmacy like?? Did you find out if there was any pharmacist involvement?
